Let’s make great summer memories with children in the village in Nara!

2018/08/25

Date: 2018/8/25(Sat.)-8/28 (Tues.)
*those who cannot participate all four days, please ask us first.
Location: Yamazoe village, Yamabe district, Nara prefecture

●What’s Yamazoe village like?

Yamazoe village is located in the northeast of Nara prefecture. Although it is difficult to access, the village is known for a historical place with ancient Nara remains and potteries.
There is neither railways nor convenience stores, but the village still preserves beautiful Japanese pastoral landscape with mountains, rice fields and tea gardens which you can barely come across in cities. This place has a reputation for high-quality green tea called “Yamatocha,” but nowadays it is suffering with some serious issues including shortage of labor and an increase in abandoned farms brought by rapidly aging populations.

In order to revitalize the village again, the local people are embarking on some projects. One of them is an education project which aims to create a learning place where children can belong to outside the school. This summer, we are planning to hold a festival in which both adults and children work together and share their excitement through creative activities. For instance, mosaic tile art, cooking, a giant sculpture, Hindu spring festival “Holi” and such. This is the first time that the village has ever held such a workcamp. We warmly welcome participants who are willing to build this event from the scratch together with your fresh ideas and suggestions.

●What are we going to do?
Creative activities with children (mosaic tile art, painting a picture etc.)
Helping locals with chores (mowing, cleaning streets etc.)
