This work camp is organized together with Shodoshima Mirai Kaitaku Project (Shodoshima Carving out the Future Project). Many years ago, some local people cleared the forest affectionally for camping. They cleaned the beach, built some log houses and cultivated several kinds of farms. The reason was because they wanted to make many people happy and healthy through the experience at their campsite, and they held camp events many times, and called them “World Peace Camp”.
　However, the campsite had been abandoned for 6 years, because the people who cleared this site moved to another island for business. Many trees and grasses are growing thickly, and nice log houses are covered with dust. If we try to use it again, we need to try very hard to repair in many parts.
　The project has begun to restore the campsite. Project vision is to have camp events like the old days with children and foreign people, and once again call it the “World Peace Camp”. They want to reinvent the place so that people not only from Japan, but from all over the world, can feel the wonderful nature of Shodoshima, enjoy communication with others and learn new things. They also want to know how they should renovate it. Cooperation and good ideas from many ‘colorful’ volunteers will make the camp site NICE again!

WORK

A: Farming and maintaining the forest
(cutting grass, improving the mountain path condition etc.)

B: Renovate the log houses for volunteers.
(The log houses need to be tidied up to be used for camping again.)

C: Cleaning the beach.
(Picking up garbage and protecting the environment.)

●What to Bring
 Suitable working clothes
You have to put on long-sleeves shirts & trousers (neither half-sleeved nor short sleeved), to protect yourself from insects, harmful grasses, and the cold.
 Enough spare clothes
 Shoes to work and move easily in the forests. If you have trekking shoes or rain boots, please bring them.
