Background |
This project is actively working for SDG2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGS15 (Life on Land). This project is organized by the local group. They had the first workcamp in the summer of 2019. The village is famous for its steep-slope farming that has been recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems by FAO ( Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )in 2018. They grow strawberries, tomatoes, etc. in a highland where elevations exceed 1,000 meters in the village and make a living. However, villages are facing labor shortage due to depopulation problem. In order to pass on the agriculture and culture of the area to the next generation, local organization are accepting students and offering classes to local junior high schools. Outcome |
Unfortunately, there was no participant in 2020, local vols. and international vols. who joined another project in same prefecture visited worksite and helped farming. The local had positive impression to them and look forward to seeing new vols. |
Work |
Volunteers will support cultivating and maintenance local strawberry and tomato farm in the local farm. It's the busiest season for local farmers and they need their contribution. And they have opportunity to learn about local traditional way of farming, recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems. |
