| Background | This project is act ively working for SDG 4 (Qual ity Educat ion), organized together with Shirakami Nature School (SNS) since 2006. Shirakami Mountains is one of Japanese valuable preserved natural forests consist ing primarily of beech trees, registered as a World Natural Heritage in 1993. SNS has a summer vacat ion program for chi Idren aged 7-12. Children will play and live in the nature to grow their independence, cult ivate sensitivity, and learn group cooperation. This is also good opportunity for chi Idren to learn about internat ional culture through communicat ion with internat ional volunteers. Volunteers need to be ready to spend 24 hours with children during kids camp except some f ree times. *Outcome of this workcamp: In 2020, 4 Japanese vols. worked well with the local people and created great friendship with the children who requested them to come back next summer again and the local staff also appreciated to them. |
| Work | Volunteers will help out and live together with children all the time in the summer program, such as supporting some activities in nature (playing at river, BBQ, trekking in mountain, experience of forestry and agriculture etc.), and shouwing your culture, perfomance,. Volunteers also help some other needed works such as forest maintenance and cleaning. The contents of work will be changed due to weather, so please be frexible! |
| Location | The Shirakami Mountains, located int he northern part of Honshu Island, is a huge mountainous area(130,000 hectares on the border between Aomori and Akita Prefectures). The nearest international airport is Tokyo. From Tokyo to the meenting point in Aomori pref., it takes 7 hours by bus bullet train or 10 hours by bus. Volunteers need to arrive at the airport i Tokyo (Narita/Haneda) by 19:00 on 30th July. and can leave there arround noon on 9th Aug. |
| Accommodation | Volunteers will stay in shared room of old elementary schhol. Meals will be cooked by vounteers by turns. Please bring a sleeping bag. |
