背景 This project is actively working for SDG 1 (No poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), organized with the Cultural and Agricultural Organisation since 2022.
This region, once a flourishing tea plantation until Independence in 1948, saw a major shift when the government took over its administration. Some estates were abandoned, others sold, and many were distributed to local communities. The development of hydropower projects in the vicinity led to the displacement of many residents, who were resettled here. Today, tea cultivation continues to be the backbone of the local economy, with most people still working in the fields. Only a handful have jobs in the city or government sectors. Limited access to essential services keeps this area largely unknown to both locals and tourists. The community here also includes South Indian Tamils, who have carried forward the rich tradition of estate work. Despite the passage of time, development has yet to fully reach this region
仕事内容 This project is divided into two key components. The first focuses on supporting selected families in improving their livelihoods through activities such as gardening, home gardening, plant nurseries, and small-scale domestic production. The second component, called 'Visit Community,' offers volunteers the unique opportunity to connect directly with local women’s groups, village youth, families, and kindergarten children. During these visits, volunteers share their stories and experiences while gaining a deep insight into local culture and the true essence of everyday life in the community
宿泊 Our accommodation is a traditional village house where we stay with a local family. The house is equipped with electricity and purified drinking water. Male and female volunteers stay in shared but separate rooms. We are responsible for keeping the premises clean and washing our own plates and dishes after meals. Laundry is done by hand, with clothes hung outside to dry.
場所 Located 114 km from Colombo (157 km via Gampola), this rural area is nestled in the mountains at an elevation of 590 meters above sea level. It lies close to two ancient kingdoms, Gampola (17 km) and Kandy (46 km). The region boasts breathtaking landscapes, majestic mountains, and historic temples. Common crops include cardamom, black pepper, and vanilla. You can also spot grand houses, remnants of the British colonial era, built by officers and wealthy residents who once lived here.

追加登録費 ?185 for 6 days / ?225 for 10 days, payable upon arrival. A ?20 discount applies for returning GV4GF workcamp volunteers and participants from lower-cost countries. An optional service is available for ?55, which includes airport pickup, one night’s stay at a guesthouse, breakfast the following day, transport to the Negombo bus terminal, and the highway bus fare to the Colombo meeting point.
資格 20才以上。A strong motivation to work while embracing diverse lifestyles, facing challenges, adapting to the local environment, and showing respect and appreciation for the local culture and way of life.
