背景 Over the past fifteen years, the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) initiative has grown tremendously due to the growing interest and appreciation for the protection and preservation of World Heritage sites. For the first time, an international volunteer camp will be held at the Ex-Convent of San Miguel Arc?ngel, located in the municipality of Huejotzingo. The ex-convent is a Franciscan construction, considered the first “convent-fortress temple” built in New Spain, and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Huejotzingo will receive national and international volunteers to carry out awareness-raising activities on the importance of preserving local cultural heritage, supporting the preservation of the 16th-century ex-convent on the slopes of Popocat?petl. This project involves collaborative work with the heritage management bodies of the state of Puebla, as well as with the community and academic institutions
仕事内容 Volunteers will participate in awareness-raising activities and promote the World Heritage Education Program and its activities in local schools and surrounding communities. They will also learn and practice traditional restoration techniques, which they will apply to the restoration of the cistern, as well as the partial cleaning of the perimeter wall of the former convent and the orchard inside the monastery. In addition, to provide better management and promote World Heritage sites, they will have the opportunity to make a presentation on the heritage of their country/state to students and the local population and will conduct a survey for the site management authorities by interviewing tourists who visit the site and members of the community. They will visit symbolic places in the municipality and discover the city's gastronomic heritage.
宿泊 ging will be in a house provided by a family in the community and has all the necessary facilities for lodging and cleanliness.. The accommodation is located 4 blocks from the center of Huejotzingo. The food will be prepared by the volunteers in a collective dynamic. On some occasions they may be invited to eat at the house of one of the inhabitants.
場所 Huejotzingo, Puebla, Mexico. Huejotzingo is a city located in the state of Puebla, Mexico. It is known for its production of cider and fruit preserves as well as its annual carnival and well-preserved colonial architecture.
Huejotzingo wants to expand access to educational opportunities for vulnerable people, promote care for natural areas and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and improve literacy levels. The city committed to a culture of peace and identity-based learning to train adults and young people to build a just and united city. Huejotzingo aims to be a place where lifelong learning is shared, as well as a city that promotes the social well-being and sustainable development of the locality.
TVolunteers will visit symbolic places in the municipality and discover the city's gastronomic heritage.
集合場所 You can take a bus from the TAPO terminals in Mexico City, ORO in the city of Cuautla or Cuernavaca. Arrival is at the CAPU bus terminal in Puebla which is 2 hours from Mexico city. From there take the Altiplanos urban bus (color orange) which goes to the Plaza de Armas in Huejotzingo and it takes about 1 hour. Cost is 18 pesos. There is also a direct bus from TAPO bus station to Huejotzingo with the Super R?pidos bus. From the airport in Mexico City you can get directly to the CAPU bus terminal in Puebla and from there take a the urban bus Altiplanos as described above.. Nearest airport is MEX. Nearest train or bus station is Huejotzingo has two bus terminals where buses coming from Puebla arrive..
