Renovation of the dormitories at the Siina? orphanage

Sinai is one of ASTOVOT's partner orphanages, taking in children aged 5 to 16. Every morning, the children go to school and spend the rest of the day at the orphanage, where they receive a basic education, health care, daily meals and clothing. Due to limited financial resources, the orphanage is facing problems with its dilapidated premises. To remedy this situation, ASTOVOT, as a partner of Sinai, is organising a solidarity camp to renovate some of the children's dormitories.

Aims of the Project:

The aim is to provide the children of the Sinai orphanage with a pleasant, clean and stimulating environment, conducive to their development and well-being. The aim is to create a safe and welcoming environment where each child feels at home, while encouraging their personal and social development. At the same time, efforts will be made to improve hygiene conditions, by ensuring the cleanliness of the premises and the quality of the sanitary facilities. The aim of this commitment is to provide a place where children can grow up in optimum conditions of health and care, enabling them to grow up

WORKS:
- Empty the dormitories, removing all the children's furniture and belongings.
- Paint the walls: choose paints, sand, apply whitewash, paint, decorate and clean.
- Wash and clean the floor thoroughly.
- Organise and clean the children's belongings before returning them to the dormitories: installation, layout, maintenance and repairs.
- Teach the children how to organise and store their belongings in the dormitories.

Collection of Tales : Cultural and Educational Animations

This summer, ASTOVOT is organising an international project to provide socio-educational activities and produce a collection of stories in the village of Agom?-Tom?gb? in Togo. The aim of the project is to mobilise children and the local community around the importance of culture, education and the preservation of oral heritage. The aim is to organise socio-educational and leisure workshops focusing on the collection of Ew? folk tales, which will then be compiled for future use in Togo's schools.

Aims of Project:
? Promoting Togolese culture and heritage: Through traditional storytelling, this project aims to preserve and pass on the stories, myths and legends of the different regions of Togo.
? Strengthen social and educational skills: Socio-educational activities enable participants to learn to work together, develop critical thinking skills and gain a better understanding of social and educational values.
? Encouraging creativity and participation among young people and children in the village: By involving young people, children and parents in creative and storytelling activities.
? Publishing

WORKS:
Storytelling workshops and story collection: Sessions to collect traditional stories from children, young people, the elderly and local storytellers.
Animation workshops: Activities (reading, games, theatre, sports) for children.
Training in socio-educational leadership: Training volunteers in leadership techniques, group management and the use of storytelling as a learning tool.
Story writing and editing: Transcription, rewriting and structuring of the stories for publication, with the participation of the volunteers and the ASTOVOT team.
Creation of a collection of stories: Layout, printing and distribution of a collection with illustrations and information about Togo's traditions.
Storytelling shows: Organisation of shows in schools, villages or festivals to promote and pass on the tale

Agriculture/Environment Project

Intercultural exposure

The major aspect of this project will be focusing on community life styles. Volunteers and Community members will have an opportunity to experience and exchange both work and leisure behavior patents in various activities, attitudes, interest, opinions and values. This provide an opportunity to reflect on each involved person’s self-image or self-concept, the way they see themselves and believe and believe they are seen by other others. This is expected to be a composite of motivation, needs and wants influenced by factors such as culture, family, reference groups and social classes. In realization of the above objective;

Volunteers will join series of activities that will include: - Community economic Life (I do what they do): Participation in the daily of the community members. This will include working in a small businesses, farming, hand craft, Arts, taking care of animals and other daily economic activities of the community members; Social-Cultural life: Participate in various social aspects of community life including traditional medicine and health care (Learning and experience), Rituals: Visiting ritual sites, learning and understanding, Ceremonies: Participating in wedding, initiation and other traditional and religious ceremonies available during that time. Language exchange: This will include; Kiswahili Language (1-2 Hours every day), Optional foreign Language teaching Class (1 hour per day preferably English or French); Knowledge exchange: Knowledge exchange will include Inter-generational exchange: age groups knowledge and experience sharing events, Images of my (Self, Culture, Country etc.) Vs Others, Community Exhibitions: Sharing various arts, music food etc.

Children development

Volunteers will engage in assisting various tasks that includes: Renovation: This will include manual work (Making new floor, partitioning rooms, painting and cement mixing); Children games (children’s Indoor and outdoor games that will stimulate learning, team building and activeness. Local games will be introduced as well foreign ones from the volunteers. Please bring new games to share with Kids); Nature activities (Bird watching, plant a tree, Tree feeder, learning about various plants, birds, animals, worms, and insects available in the area); and academic development activities (After school hour home works, various competitions aiming to motivate children’s academic development).
