The main goal is to promote the hidden history, nature, and culture of the islands from an international perspective.

As part of the program, youth from 15 countries will engage in cultural exchange activities with local teenagers. Participants will introduce their countries through food, games, art, clothing, photography, and more. These sessions will help local youth expand their global understanding.

In addition, participants will carry out community service by delivering lunch boxes to elderly residents living alone and supporting them with basic home maintenance tasks. These visits offer opportunities to listen to their life stories, share values, and even exchange meals with flavors from around the world.

Environmental activities are also a key part of the program. Participants will join a plogging (trash-picking while walking) activity along the island's coasts and in the tidal flats. They will also take part in experiential learning sessions to explore and understand the ecological significance of the tidal flats, which are designated as UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

Participants will compete in a creative island promotion SNS challenge, using storytelling and social media content to share the charm and global significance of the islands with the world. Through these experiences, participants will immerse themselves in authentic island life, engage in meaningful cultural exchanges, and contribute to sustainable community development.

Archaeology and Culture

No experience is necessary as new volunteers are teamed up with students and experienced volunteers for hands on learning. Volunteer opportunities range from field excavations to basic maintenance and restoration tasks. This year we will be opening test excavations in the field and assisting with historic preservation tasks in early 20th century buildings, including the museum.

The workday is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The work is done in a friendly and supportive environment. Please understand that this is hard physical labor and includes digging with a trowel or shovel, screening soil, carrying buckets of dirt, and some other hand tool use. Each person will work at their own pace according to their physical condition.

The temperature can be quite hot or cool and rainy. BRING work gloves, work shoes and clothing, including a warm coat or sweatshirt, sun hat, rain coat, long sleeve shirts and pants as there will be mosquitoes. The work site can be dirty and muddy so multiple sets of work clothes are a good idea. The local mud is a very red color, which can be difficult to remove from clothing. Sunscreen and bug spray will be provided.

Study Themes:
History and contemporaneous events (what was happening around the world while people lived at the site). Geology ? why people chose to mine at this particular site. Immigration ? where the mining community was from, and what challenges resulted from such a diversity of origins.

SEEDS 045. Sn?fellsnes - Nature & Outdoors

his project is located on the beautiful Sn?fellsnes Peninsula, we will be based in the town of Grundarfj?r?ur, working on diverse tasks related to nature, environment and outdoor recreation.
The main tasks of the project will be environmentally related, such as planting trees and other vegetation; maintenance or infrastructure tasks such as creating and fixing walking paths in the recreational areas of the town and social tasks as: painting and fixing fences and play structures for the local school or kindergarten.
The tree-planting project is very important for biodiversity and to provide shelter from the wind; while the well maintained paths enable people to visit these amazing areas without damaging the surroundings and in addition SEEDS volunteers’ work helps to improve safety for visitors. The group can be split up for different projects, but it will never be less than two working together.
The working day normally runs from 09:00 - 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee. No previous experience is necessary but the work is demanding and might require a good physical condition. As it is outdoors work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible, as depending on the weather, the work plan might change with short notice or the group may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned.
Volunteers need to be prepared for working outdoors, be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and bring warm winter clothes as the tasks take place outside and it could get rather cold even in summer. Bring warm under-layers, waterproofs, walking shoes/boots, a good sleeping bag, hat, scarves and gloves.

Intercultural Building Project (Z?rich ZH)

We will be working with various techniques such as woodworking, metalworking, and in general with up-and recycling. There are also the possibilities to include textile working or screen-printing into the project.
If you already have a specific know-how in one of these techniques, it would be great! Or if you have other ideas or skills to contribute to the project in whatever way ? please let us know.
Please be aware that you will not work with local volunteers but always within the SCI volunteer group.

Festival Esperanzah!　オルタナティブ音楽フェスの会場装飾、DIY

7/25（金）～7/27（日）まで開催される音楽フェスティバル「Esperanzah!エスペランサ！」の手伝い。フェスティバルの前後に活動するが、フェスティバル開催中の週末は自由時間でフェスティバルを存分に楽しめる。
・フェスティバル前：「装飾」チームに参加。主に舞台装置や会場を美しく彩る様々なアイテムの組み立てと設置。木材、金属、布、ペンキなどを扱い、ネジや工具（ドライバー、ノコギリ、アングルグラインダーなど）を使用。
・フェスティバル終了後、最後の3日間は、撤去作業。

環境整備:
・地元の木材を利用して、自然環境に調和する素朴なベンチを設置
・受粉昆虫（ミツバチや蝶）の生息環境を保護するため、「蝶のオアシス」や「受粉昆虫用ホテル（巣箱）」を設置

・Fornos de Algodres自治体内で選定された4種の外来種に適した管理技術を適用する外来種管理の重要性を広報するための啓発資料を作成する

Get creative, paint cabins, drink Mattoni!　キャビンの壁を改修。マットーニの歴史探訪

レクリエーション・エリアにある2棟の大型キャビンの修理。具体的には、屋根を除くキャビン表面の改修（キャビンの外壁と内壁のやすりがけ、ペンキの塗り替え、小さな補修）。また、コテージ前の屋外テラスの修繕（古い床板の撤去と新しい床板の敷設、必要な塗装、内装の小修繕、木工）。作業は肉体的にハードではないが、梯子を使っての作業、コテージの壁の上部の塗装、テラス用材木の取り扱い、木材の清掃など、手作業であることに留意。【学習テーマ】ハインリヒ・マットーニとキセルカ村の温泉にまつわる地元の歴史を探訪。かつての温泉街、マットーニ遊歩道、マットーニ博物館、ブチナ展望台を巡るツアー。復元された歴史的な映画館、ラドショフの木造橋、地元の教会訪問

Natural Farming　自然農法で野菜の栽培・有機堆肥作りなど

野菜の栽培、雑草の除去、有機堆肥の作成と農場への導入、農場への小道の改修、健康な作物を育てるための糞の散布や農薬の準備など。手を泥だらけにし、肉体労働をする覚悟が必要。経験豊富また熟練したボランティアは、地域がオフシーズンの野菜を栽培し、乾地農業に移行する手助けができる。自然農法を推進する革新的なアイデアはいつでも歓迎。※作業は天候に左右される
自然農法以外に、他の人道的プロジェクト、女性グループとの会合、RUCHI事務局での肉体労働、コミュニティやスラムでの活動も。
