COMMUNICATION ASSISTANT FOR ASTOVOT (COMMUNITY MANAGER)

Support for healthcare staff at the "Notre Dame de la Mis?ricorde"

The "Notre Dame de la Mis?ricorde" medical and social centre in Kpalim? has approached ASTOVOT for volunteers. There aren't many carers there, but they're always interested in learning about new medical practices and exchanging skills. This will also help to strengthen the expertise in tropical medicine of international volunteers who are interested in this field, and to confront the health realities of developing countries such as Togo.
The volunteers will help the staff to treat and assist patients. The centre has analysis laboratories, general medicine departments and a maternity ward where the various medical professions can work.
N.B: Volunteers are free to bring medical equipment (consumables or not).
Volunteers are asked to bring a white coat, the same garment worn by medical staff.

SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES WITH DISABLED CHILDREN FROM THE "L'ENVOL" MEDICO-PSYCHO-PEDAGOGICAL INSTITUTE

The Institut M?dico-Psycho-P?dagogique l'Envol, located in Kpalim?, has been an ASTOVOT partner for many years. It takes in young people aged 7 to 15 with mental disabilities (trisomy21) or cerebral palsy. Disabled children are often marginalised and rejected by society, seen as a burden or a curse for their families. L'Envol therefore offers these children a school education to enable them to lead as independent a life as possible. The volunteer's mission will have two objectives:
1. To make up for the lack of educational staff
2. To bring the children and staff into contact with another culture. Intercultural exchanges are a source of enrichment for everyone.
Work Description:

? Assist the educators in supervising the children during the various activities.
? Work with the children in the various workshops: modelling and making various objects, collage and drawing, games, chat, music and dance, storytelling and singing ;
? Carrying out cultural and artistic activities;

There is a serious problem of teacher shortage in the schools. Volunteers will help pupils to study effectively by assisting teachers during lessons, giving support classes, etc. Volunteers will support pupils in reading and writing (French), arithmetic, drawing and other subjects in accordance with the Togolese educational programme, while at the same time sharing the curriculum of their own country... In the kindergartens (2 to 5 years old), the volunteers will assist the teachers and come up with various socio-educational activities to entertain the children.

ESPACE AGRO- ECOLO

The "Espace Agro Ecolo" project is an initiative by the NGO ASTOVOT and volunteers to promote sustainable, organic farming. This green micro-space is a crossroads for learning, sharing, listening and discovering know-how in organic farming and environmental protection. The ecosystem is made up of several parts: a vegetable garden (market gardening), fruit trees (papaya trees, etc.), flowers, a wild area and a small river for watering the crops.
The aims of this volunteer project are to

ECOBASKET: Sport and Environment

Ecobasket is an initiative by ASTOVOT national volunteers to promote basketball while protecting the environment. This partner association aims to promote a culture of sustainability by using basketball as a means of education, entertainment and personal development for young people throughout the neighbourhoods of Kpalim? and the surrounding villages. We offer basketball training sessions with a focus on ecological principles such as waste sorting, energy saving and pollution reduction, educational workshops on environmental issues for pupils and teachers, as well as community events such as ecological basketball tournaments, street cleaning and awareness campaigns.
Work Description:

? Prepare a training programme to raise awareness of eco-actions in collaboration with the national volunteer training team.
? Implementation of awareness-raising workshops on the themes of global warming and environmental protection
? Development and maintenance of basketball courts in the town of Kpalim? and surrounding villages (weeding, tracing, installation of hoops...etc.)

WOMEN AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT" PROGRAM

The Women and Community Development programme associated with the AKLALA BATIK Centre project aims to contribute to the empowerment of women and girls and help them in their personal and collective development. To achieve this, ASTOVOT offers a programme with various components tailored to their needs; 1. Training and awareness-raising on informal literacy, gender, reproductive health, sexuality education, women's rights, personal development, etc. 2. Support for cooperatives (savings management, entrepreneurship, social communication) 3. Organising cultural events to showcase their work. For the moment, training and awareness-raising sessions are taking place three times a week. This programme requires the volunteer to spend time researching and documenting in order to prepare the workshops in collaboration with the coordination team and the beneficiaries. THE VOLUNTEER WILL BE REQUIRED TO: ? Search for trainers and themes for the training and awareness-raising sessions ? Going out into the field to interview and understand the needs of the cooperatives ? Propose and provide entrepreneurial capacity-building training courses ? Helping to find funding ? Set up cultural activities with women ? Evaluate and participate in the sustainability of the "women and community development" programme.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS" PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS

Despite developments in the use of computers, access to this communication tool is still very limited in Togo's universities, high schools and colleges. The vast majority of Togolese pupils and students have not been introduced to the use of computers. This is becoming a real handicap in their school or university careers.
With this in mind, ASTOVOT is setting up simple, practical introductory courses to computers and the Internet for pupils.
This introductory computer course is open to all volunteers who have a basic knowledge of computers and wish to pass this on to young Togolese. They will be accompanied by a teacher employed by the association.
Work Description:

As part of this project, ASTOVOT is working with three (3) beneficiaries:
- The students of the Zomayi neighbourhood at ASTOVOT headquarters
- The students of the Coll?ge Cayholique Polyvalent de Kpalim?;
- The learners at the Craft Centre in Kpalim?.
So the volunteer can select the group they would like to work with or combine the two or three if possible.

ASTOVOT's partner orphanages take in children aged 5 to 16. The children go to school in the morning and then spend the rest of the day at the orphanage, which provides them with a basic education, health care, daily meals and clothing. Due to a lack of financial resources, orphanages are often understaffed and cannot adequately provide for the children's needs. Voluntary work is therefore essential to support them in educating their children. The partner orphanages are: 1. SINA? orphanage 2. GMI orphanage 3. SAINT MARTIN orphanage

CINEMA AND LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN IN KPALIM?

This project has been set up to encourage the development and fulfilment of children. Every week, it attracts dozens of children and teenagers to the activity centres. The idea is to give children the opportunity to enjoy pleasant, enriching and motivating leisure time through board games and film screenings. The aim is to encourage children to become more aware, discover new things, learn new things through playing games and watching films. As well as this, ASTOVOT has a library to promote reading in all its forms, and to provide children with tools that will be useful to them in their schooling and in their lives. You will be required to manage the library, share your knowledge with the children, devise activities with partner establishments, etc.
Work Description:

? Leading, accompanying and supervising groups of children during games workshops or film screenings. ? Plan and prepare with a local volunteer the space for games and or film screenings. ? Help children to distinguish clearly between fiction and reality. ? Repair books, manage records (loans, reader's cards, etc). ? Organise fun and recreational events with the children. ? SUPPORT FOR THE HEALTH STAFF AT THE "M?RE T?R?SA DE CALCUTTA" CENTRE

The "Mother Teresa Home" cares for the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, AIDS and tuberculosis patients, the infirm, the unloved, all those who have lost all hope and faith in life. At present, around sixty (60) patients of different religions and nationalities are welcomed. The tasks are many and range from medical care to animating the patients to housekeeping and cooking. Since 2018, the centre has been working with ASTOVOT to host volunteers with medical training to support its medical staff in treating patients.
The volunteers will help the staff to care for and assist patients. The centre has an infirmary to provide primary care to patients.
N.B: Volunteers are free to bring their own medical equipment (consumables or not).
Work Description:
